- What
is Crime Solvers?
Crime Solvers is a program in which members of the community,
the media, the sheriff's department and business owners work
together to solve crime. If you have informationno matter
how trivial or insignificant it may seemabout a crime,
Mathews County Crime Solvers encourages you to call (804) 725-7001
and report the information. You will not have to give your
name and you will not have to testify in court. If the information
leads to an arrest, you will receive a cash reward of as much
as $1,000.
How does it work?
When you call Crime Solvers, the person who answers the telephone
will record the date, time and a brief summary of the information
you provide. The person will give you a code number. If the information
you give results in an arrest, you will receive the reward associated
with that code number. The reward you receive will vary depending
on the crime.
-
- If
you give your name and phone number, the call taker will log
the information. However, it will be kept strictly confidential.
All callers may remain anonymous, with no pressure to reveal
their identities, and still collect their rewards.
How effective is Crime Solvers?
Increased reports of crime and more arrests, indictments and
convictions are proof that Crime Solvers works.
While crime prevention continues to be our best means of reducing
crime, Crime Solvers helps assure fast, sure punishment for those
who break the law.
How much does it cost?
Crime Solvers is not funded by your tax dollars. Crime Solvers
operates through donations from individuals, civic and social
groups, professional associations, corporations and retailers.
Donations are used to pay rewards and related expenses.
Because Crime Solvers has been approved by the Internal Revenue
Service as a private, non-profit organization, contributions
are tax deductible.
Who manages Crime Solvers?
A Crime Solvers board of directors, comprised of citizens, oversees
the program and approves the rewards to be paid. They determine
the amount of the rewards based upon information presented by
the sheriff's department. The board of directors does not know

case and the caller's Crime Stoppers number.
